Mamoncillo originates from South America, but grows here in South Florida in very limited quantities. This fruit is also very popular in Central America and the Caribbean. Indigenous people of the Caribbean and South America (Tainos and Mayans to name a few) called them Kenep which is why many countries have names that sound similar or rhyme with it. Almost every country has a different name for them.
